Show Your Actions For #IndonesiaUnite! NOW!

The internet breaks down communication barriers. #indonesiaunite (the hashtag) only took several hours to be widespread in twitter. And within days, what started as a response to the bombs snowballed into a call for action. A call for the youth of Indonesia to act, to do whatever they can to improve the future of this country.

Along with the enormous support, also came the criticisms. On a daily basis we see blogposts or tweets where people doubt whether this is just a trend, because in the past our people has been very reactive to nationalism issues.

There are also comments like "this won't do any good" or those who think "the government should do this and that". I always have strong reactions to those.

I personally think criticisms on #indonesiaunite are good, because it serves as a reminder to all of us that this spirit shouldn't just stop here. Something concrete needs to be done if we want to show the world that Indonesia is a great country despite the terrors aimed at us. Something to make this country a better place for everyone. We need criticisms like this one from Silly: http://sillystupidlife.com/2009/07/22/time-to-act-not-to-talk-indonesianunite/. It was a big slap on my face when reading that post last week, a huge reminder to start some action.

Mere criticism won't do any good. This country needs real actions, and if you criticise without offering alternative solution, you are no better than those who stop at tweeting using the hashtag #indonesiaunite and changing your avatar into Merah Putih.

I would like to see more people 'reminding' others that they shouldn't stop just there, and giving suggestions on how people can move #indonesiaunite offline.

And I'm so sorry to say this, but if your solution is waiting for the government to do something, you are no different than a sheep in the middle of an empty field. One that is making a lot of noise but doesn't move.

We have enough sheep right now, we need shepherds, leaders who point out to others where to go. Any direction is welcome right now, because making a move is much much better than standing still
